Dr Afzal Chaudhry is the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) of the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH), a consultant nephrologist, and Associate Lecturer in the Department of Medicine at the University of Cambridge. Dr Chaudhry was one of the leadership team that designed, procured and implemented the eHospital project for CUH. As the CMIO, he is responsible for the hardware and software that supports eHospital, and ensuring the quality of inputs to and outputs from the system, system changes, integration with research, information governance, communications, and policy.

Dr Chaudhry received his degree in Medicine from St George’s London where he won numerous prizes. He completed his specialist training in nephrology at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and his PhD in Pathology, with a focus on autoimmune disease at the Imperial College London. In 2003, Dr Chaudhry became a consultant nephrologist at CUH, and began to lead local and national strategies to improve patient care through clinical informatics and information technology solutions.
