Andrew Barlow

Clinical Lead for Respiratory Medicine - West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust

I am Divisional Director for Medicine and Board member at West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust. I’m interested in improving care quality and efficiency through innovation and recently was awarded the HPMA OD project of the year 2020 for a redesign of the acute medical take called SMART.

I have sub-specialty interests in lung cancer, Endo-bronchial Ultrasound, and oesophageal ultrasound-guided biopsy, bronchoscopy, difficult airways disease, allergy (pollens/moulds/animals/foods/insect stings), respiratory failure and sleep medicine.

I set up the first Endobronchial Ultrasound service in the Mount Vernon Cancer Network (based at Harefield Hospital) but now concentrate on growing my own local EBUS/EUS service at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust. I have presented on matters relating to EBUS at numerous international conferences, including BTOG 2011, 2012, and 2015 and also appear as a regular faculty member for the renowned course held at UCH, EBUS Live. I am co-Director of our own West Herts EBUSLIVE Course (2017, 2018) and chief endoscopist on the live video series sponsored by Hitachi Pentax released in 2020.

I take an active role in research and currently I am the West Herts NHS Trust Principle Investigator for the national multi-center study LuCID and the local HRA-approved study, PREDICT COVID UK.
