Dr James Teo is a consultant neurologist at King’s College Hospital, London. He is also the Joint Clinical Director for AI and Data Science at King’s College Hospital and Guys & St Thomas Hospital, and through this leads data and AI transformation using natural language processing (NLP) and machine vision.
He has extensive interest in embracing modern technological solutions for stroke care, clinical research and rehabilitation after stroke. His NLP platform was instrumental in scalable data handling during Covid pandemic (Cogstack.org) and specifically named by NHSX in 2020 as a Flagship Technology and the UK Health Secretary in a Parliamentary Speech and the World Economic Forum.
Dr Teo was one of the organisers of the Cumberland Consensus in 2008; this formed the basis for the Stroke Research Network. He was chief investigator of the Early Prolonged Ambulatory Cardiac monitoring in Stroke (EPACS) clinical trial investigating patch-based wearables for stroke prevention.
He completed his medical training at the University of Oxford and Royal Free Hospital, and obtained his PhD from the UCL Institute of Neurology. Dr Teo has broad experience in neurology research, with more than 50 peer-reviewed papers from basic science to proof-of-principle studies and clinical trials.
