Piers is Chief Executive of Eastern AHSN (Academic Health Science Network), which supports the adoption and spread of innovative products and technology into the health and care system across the East of England. Eastern AHSN is funded largely by the NHS and brings together partners from local industry, universities and the regional NHS to solve some of the most pressing issues facing the health and care system. Its activities include advising start-ups on how to position their products most effectively for take-up by the NHS, bringing together new partnerships to solve a particular issue and leading major change programmes in the NHS based around the uptake of new care pathways and/or technology. Eastern AHSN is a member of the AHSN Network, the national network of 15 AHSNs who work closely together across the NHS in England. The Network employs around 700 staff and Piers was elected as the Network’s Chair from 2019-2021.
Piers was formerly a Partner at KPMG, where he held a variety of roles including leading the firm’s healthcare management consulting practice. He is an experienced advisor to boards and also led a team at the Department of Health last year to identify and implement a range of innovative technologies for Covid-19 diagnostic testing. Piers is a regular speaker at health and tech conferences and is a Chartered Accountant (ACA), having trained and qualified with KPMG.
