After graduating from Glasgow Caledonian University as a dietitian, Debbie went on to work as a community dietitian in the north of England. It was there that she was able to specialise in oncology whilst developing her leadership and management skills. In 2009 she returned to Scotland, taking up the post of Macmillan Project Lead Dietitian in NHS Ayrshire and Arran. Since then she has led a number of award-winning projects, held a national role as Macmillan AHP Lead for Cancer Rehabilitation and developed robust partnerships with health and social care partnerships and third sector organisations. She now holds a Regional Clinical Lead role with the West of Scotland Cancer Network.
Debbie was an early convert to social media for professional purposes and she is one of the co-founders and moderators of AHPScot – Scotland’s official blog and twitter account for AHPs in Scotland. Debbie is also a Vice Chair of Scotland’s digital NMAHP steering group and she is working towards a PgDip in Digital Health Leadership via cohort 2 of the NHS Digital Academy.
Alongside these current roles Debbie is a part-time PhD student at the University of Glasgow. It is there that she leads research into body weight in the management of Lymphoedema.
